Onne Customs Records $64.048M Proceeds from Exports

The Port Harcourt Area II of the Nigeria Customs Service, Onne in Rivers  State has in the spirit of the government's efforts to create employment  and generate foreign Exchange thorough Exports  collected a total of  $64.048million equivalent of N19,589,080,800 with an Exchange rate ofN305.85 to a Dollar to the coffers of government.

 The command also generated N44,686,266,012.99 through Imports activities during the same period under review to the federal government Coffers both recorded in the first half of 2017.
The 2017 half year revenue, surpassed the 2016 amount by N177,865,521.80
Briefing Newsmen on his Command's activities in the past six months, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Abubakar  Bashir, said that his Command's Exports activities has witnessed a great Improvement with a Cost and Freight Value and  Nigeria Exports Supervision Scheme (NESS) from N33.722 to N102.047, which indicates a huge improvement during the same period of last year.
Comptroller Bashir who described the Onne Command as the flagship of  the Customs Service  in the South South, South East zone of Nigeria said the command is wide and its activities is impacting in the region.
On anti smuggling activities, a total of 20 Seizures, comprising of 18 by 20ft Containers and 2 by 40ft Containers  of various items were recorded. The seized goods were valued at N422,770,096 .Again the seizures surpassed the 2016 record which was only two containers worth N140,700,000  recorded in the same period.
On Inter agency collaboration, Comptroller Bashir said his command have a very cordial relationship with other sister agencies in the port. This, he said lead  to  the handing over of 11 containers of illegally imported pharmaceuticals  and two containers suspected to contain conterminated fish confiscated by his Command to NAFDAC.
Despite the tremendous achievements recorded by the Command, Bashir said, the process of 100% examination of all Containers is very tedious and usually not very effective as most containers are machine packed at the point of origin.He complained that manually  unstuffing  of Containers for physical examination is fraught with myriads of Challenges.His complaints came from the back drop that none of the Scanners at the Command is functional.
The Customs boss,commended his officers and Men for the feat.He said, ,"We are comforted by the marked improvement in all performance indices. The landmarks achieved so far would have been impossible without the cooperation and determination of officers and Men of the Command who have made tremendous sacrifices to achieve this goal"
He called on importers and their Agents to desist from trade malpractices as the new customs system cannot allow that.He also commended the Comptroller General of the Service, Col Handed Ali and his Management team for the tremendous reforms carried out in recent time in the Service
