Lagos/Ibadan rail project: Five Star discharges 14,434 rail lines with locally designed equipment

Harboursandport.com: Lagos --- Five Star Logistics Limited, managers of Terminal C at the Tin-can Island port has successfully discharged three shipments of rail lines totaling 14,434 from China using locally fabricated equipment.

The importance of the feat is as a result of the size and weight of each of the lines which measures 25 meters and 1.5 tons respectively.

General Manager of Five Star Logistics Limited, Wolfgang Schneider, told Harboursandport that they had to resort to the locally fabricated equipment when the one imported failed.

Schneider explained that with the used of the locally designed equipment, the 14,434 rail line have been discharged and most of them delivered in the last seven months.
According to him, "we have handled so far for China Civil Engineering Constriction Corporation (CCECC), Limited and their Lagos / Ibadan railway project the following three rail-shipments:
In October 2017 – 4,270 rails weighing about 6,400 metric tons; in December 2017 – 5,964 rails lines weighing about 8,946 metric tons and in March 2018 – 4,200 rails lines weighing about 6,300 metric tons respectively.
"Between the first shipment and now, a total of 14,434 rails lines of 25 meter long each and weighing 1.5 metric tons, bring total weight of the three shipments so far handled to 21,651 metric tons.
"We are expecting another shipment of about 5,000 rails lines in the next couple of days and thereafter further shipments to complete the project," he noted.
He also disclosed that the contractors for the rail project have to deploy special trucks to convey their consignment to their site in Ogun State since they longer than the conventional trucks available in the country.
