The Manufacturers
Association of Nigeria (MAN) has stressed the need for the Federal Government
to give incentives to companies involved in the production of raw materials for
the manufacturing sector of the nation’s economy.
Making call known in
Lagos at the Association’s 2019 Annual Media Luncheon, President of MAN, Engr.
Ahmed Mansur, explained that the country is spending huge sums of revenue in
importation of these raw materials, assuring that he would work at addressing the
issue this year.
He said MAN has been
the major promoter and advocate of made in Nigeria products; adding that one of
the core mandates of the Association is to encourage local farmers and
producers as well as ensuring that they are patronised.
He said the
importation of raw materials is a critical challenge that must be looked
into. He therefore noted that there is increase in the importation of raw
materials into the country than in the previous few years and therefore advices
all government agencies to ensure strict implementation of all Federal
Government policies in this regard.
He assured that MAN
will continue to encourage large, small and medium scale enterprises to
increase the production capacity of the sector. He also said that MAN is
working very hard to expand its scope beyond Nigeria, by making it rank amongst
the leading Manufacturers Associations in West Africa.
Similarly, the
Director General of MAN, Mr. Segun Ajayi in his opening remarks, appeal to
journalists to put MAN and it activities in front burner as they interact with
politicians during the election.
The MAN DG said this
will help in the growth of the Association, as well as redirecting government’s
attention and focus on the challenges facing MAN.
