ANLCA Takes Steps to Ensure Transparent Election as Voting Date Approaches

In anticipation of the upcoming association election, the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has initiated significant measures aimed at ensuring transparency in its electoral procedures.

During a convened gathering led by the recently designated sole administrator, Mr. Babatunde Mukaila, chapter executives of ANLCA reached a consensus on a pivotal resolution. This resolution mandates that licensed members eligible to partake in the forthcoming association election must hold certification as active members of a chapter, and their eligibility must be verified by the respective chapter chairman.

Emphasizing ANLCA's constitutional stance, the chapter chairmen and executives underscored that membership within ANLCA is established and flourishes at the chapter level. The primary objective of this assembly, as articulated by the Sole Administrator, was to lay a solid foundation for a more streamlined and accountable approach to the impending National Executive Committee (NECOM) elections.

During the proceedings, the Sole Administrator, drawing from his direct experience as the immediate past National Secretary of the association, elucidated the roles of chapter executives as outlined in the association's constitution.

With an unwavering commitment to strengthening the internal framework of the association, the chapter chairmen and executives collectively emphasized the fundamental principle that ANLCA membership originates and prospers within individual chapters.

One of the key resolutions formulated during the meeting involved a joint appeal to the Association Electoral Committee (ASECO). The appeal sought meticulous organization of the membership roster based on chapters, thereby enabling each chapter chairman to validate the authenticity of members prior to the election. This strategic move is projected to provide greater transparency regarding the chapter affiliations of each member, ultimately simplifying the electoral process and cultivating a more informed voting experience for all participants.

In addition, the chapter executives concurred that should ASECO encounter difficulties in categorizing the list of licensed members into chapters, they should engage in communication with the respective chapter chairmen. This communication would allow the chapter chairmen to take ownership of their members within the already published list.

In response to a query posed by one of the chapter chairmen regarding the timing of this sensitization, considering its proximity to the election date, Mukaila attributed the timing to past internal crises within the association. However, he underscored that ANLCA's dedication to smooth operations extends beyond election cycles. Mukaila clarified that the upcoming NECOM election holds distinct significance, primarily involving matters between the board and ASECO.

He stated that the resolutions put forth during the meeting are proactive recommendations devised to augment the integrity and effectiveness of the imminent NECOM elections.
