Harboursandportcom: Lagos-Nigeria: January 14, 2026: ‎The Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), started off the year in giant stride, by combating a major seizure  of 20 sacks of Cannabis Indica; with a Duty Paid Value (DPV)  of over ₦157.8 million.

‎The Area Controller of the  Command, Comptroller Patrick Ntadi, who disclosed this while briefing journalists on Wednesday, stated that the illicit drugs was carefully packed into 1,205 wrapped loaves, and was suspected to have been smuggled into the country through the waterways.


‎CAC Ntadi also highlighted that the recent anti-smuggling operation conducted by vigilant officers of the Command, is a major operational feat in its sustained efforts towards safeguarding the nation's Maritime domain against illicit activities.

‎"The Command remains resolute in the fight against smuggling and other criminal activities that threatens national security and economic stability. Our success is attributed to the motivation given to us from the Controller General of Customs (CGC) Adewale Bashir Adeniyi, enhanced intelligence sharing and improved collaboration with other security agencies like the Nigerian Navy, NDLEA, Marine Police and the Immigration Service".


‎" I assure you that the Western Marine Command will not relent in its fight against smuggling and illegal activities. We are committed to upholding the laws of our land , protecting our citizens and ensuring justice is served"Ntadi added.

‎Moving away from the interception, Compt Ntadi also informed the press that during the period under review, the  Western Marine Container Seat Team, successfully escorted 21,414 containers from the main port,  to designated bonded terminals , which is in alignment in ensuring regulatory compliance, transparency, and the smooth flow of legitimate trade.

‎ 

‎ According to him, “These achievements underscore our statutory mandate of border security, revenue protection, and trade facilitation". 

‎Meanwhile, in a short visit made by his colleague , the CAC of Apapa Comand, Compt. Emmanuel Oshoba, he admonishes the officers of the Command to ensure that they main healthy relationships amongst themselves.

‎Analysing the number of years he has known Compt Ntadi , CAC Oshoba stated, " It is a pleasure and a real privilege to be here, standing in front of you. And thanks to your CAC, we've been on this journey together going towards 35 years now. The  Relationship we maintain with the service is very key, that is the only thing that endures. Posting does not endure,  Promotion does not endure,  Only the relationships built along this career endures".

‎He also encourages them to make discipline their watchword, and also cash in on all the privileged amenities the CGC has and is still putting in place for their growth.

‎"The Nigeria Customs Service, under the leadership of our able CGC, has given us an environment to thrive, to grow, to aspire to the topmost in the service.  What we do with those privilege now rests with us. Discipline is key. It starts from your dressing, your composure, the way you talk, your dedication to duty. It all speaks of discipline. And as they say,  the best form of discipline is  Self-discipline. Don't wait for somebody else to discipline you. Discipline yourself. Then you won't find anybody disciplining you" .

‎"We are building a professional service, and there are platforms in  place where you can gather enough knowledge  about what we do in the service.  While you are here, and you have time at your disposal,  take advantage and build yourself up. You can also consult colleagues. In areas you think you are not good enough, please consult colleagues and build yourself up. You must be humble. You must be teachable. You must available", Oshoba added.
