Harboursandport.com: Lagos - The Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA has appointed Sylvester Othuke Egede as the substantive Port Manager of the Tin-can Island Port Complex, TCIPC to succeeded Akin Leoso who served on Acting capacity for the last two months of 2023 since the exit of Jubril Buba the former Port Manager who exited the NPA in November 2023.

Before
Sylvester Egede's appointment as the Port Manager, he was the Traffic Manager
of the Lagos Port Complex, since August 2023 until his appointment as Port
Manager TCIPC Apapa. The new Port Manager had earlier served at Kirikiri
Lighter Terminal also as the Traffic Manager from 2021 to August 2023.
A statement signed by Head, Corporate and Strategic Communications, TCIPC, Sola Adesanwo noted that between 2012 – 2016, the new Port Manager served the Executive Director Marine and Operations as Personal Assistant Operations. Egede, a thorough bred Operations Officer, first served as a Traffic Manager at the Rivers Port, Port-Harcourt on his appointment as a Principal Manager Operations from 2016-2021.
Earlier, he was Manager Traffic Operations Coordinator, National Integrated Power Project (NIPP/NPA Project Unit) from 2006-2012. Among several posts he held in the past were Personal Assistant to Port Manager (Tincan Island Port), Secretary to the Implementation Committee on ISPS code Regime in the Port between 2001-2004, Senior Traffic Officer (Supervision of Vessel), discharge, handling and delivery of cargos (TCIPC) from 2000- 2001.
Among the professional bodies he belongs to include, American Society of Safety Professionals (member), Fellow Chartered Institute of Logistic and Transport (FCILT) etc.
His educational background includes B. SC Geography, University of Jos between 1986-1990 and MSC Transport Planning, Lagos State University (LASU) between 1997-1998.
He has attended several conferences and seminars within and outside the country, some of these are ASCON- workshop on Developing Leadership Competence and Capabilities 2020,International Maritime Organisation (IMO) April 2014 and September 2019 and in October 2023(UK).
He was also in attendance when the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH) held in Abuja in August 2018. He attended The Oil Trade Conference (OTC) (Houston, Texas, USA) at different intervals between 2015 and 2023.
He also attended Port Management & Administration Programs at the Maritime University, Malmo, Sweden in 2012.
Egede the astute operation czar, who has since resumed duty at Tincan Island Port, as the Port Manager is married with children.
