Harboursandports.com: Lagos- November 17, 2024: President of the National Government Approved Freight Forwarders, NAGAFF, Tochukwu Ezisi, Saturday said that the establishment of NAGAFF has transformed the freight forwarding industry.
Ezisi stated this in his opening speech at the NAGAFF's Silver Jubilee celebration held in Lagos.
The NAGAFF President stated that the celebration represents an important milestone in the industry's journey.
He said, " Today is a milestone in the life of NAGAFF, the child of necessity that was born on the 30/11/1999 under Part C of Decree 1990 in Lagos, has turned to an adult of 25 years."
According to him, the establishment of NAGAFF has transformed the freight forwarding industry, freeing freight forwarders from the constraints imposed by operators who previously dominated the sector. This development has also signified the rise of professionalism within the industry.
Ezisi also mentioned that the industry believes the current bottlenecks affecting their operations will soon be resolved, especially now that Customs is transitioning from NCISS II to B Odogwu.
"The birth of NAGAFF revolutionized the freight forwarding industry. It emancipated freight forwarders from the shackles and from the hands of oppressors who hitherto held them down. It marked the enthronement of professionalism in the industry wherein practitioners had a key into the vision of genuine and honest declarations which in turn tripled the huge revenue generations of the Customs.
"It is our belief that in the near future, all the bottlenecks currently experienced today in the course of doing our business in the ports will be a thing of the past especially now that Customs is migrating from NCISS 11 to B ODOGWU," he said
Concluding, Ezisi expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, and other government agencies while urged shipping companies and terminal operators to welcome young freight forwarders, as their contributions will be essential in the industry.
In his words, "I want to specially thank the NCS, NPA and every other government agency at the port for all their support to our members and also appeal that you continue to support them as they go about their various businesses; that their added value to national development can never be overemphasised.
"I appeal to the shipping companies and terminal operators to stop chasing these young freight forwarders away from your facilities, you need them much as they need you."
"I appeal to NCS, NPA, NSC, etc to step up their game to be in tune with the standard global practices, so that they can favorably compete with other ports and ensure that more cargo vessels call our ports," he said.
