... Intercepts Contraband With DPV N755m in 3 Months

Harboursandport.com: Lagos- November 2, 2024: The Oyo/Osun Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS said it has collected a total revenue of N57 billion between January and September this year.
The Command also disclosed that it recorded a 27.5 per cent increase representing N24 billion in the third quarter of the year compared to the N17.3 billion it collected in the corresponding period last year.
The Customs Area Controller, CAC of the Command, Dr. Ben Oramalugo who disclosed this at a press briefing in Ibadan, noted that the Command also intercepted contraband goods with Duty Paid Value, DPV worth N755 million in the third quarter of this year.
Oramalugo explained that the N57 billion collected in the first nine months of the year which represents a 7.85 per cent increase, surpassed the N52.2 billion collected during the same period last year.
The Command in a statement made available to Harboursandport.com, noted that some of the contraband items impounded included 433 bags of foreign rice, 49 sacks of cannabis, 354 kegs of petroleum products, and fake pharmaceuticals.
The Customs boss commended the cooperation of communities and intelligence gathering which led to the interception of 31 smuggling attempts.
Oramalugo further pointed out that as a symbol of inter-agency cooperation, the Command would transfer the seized pharmaceuticals and Cannabis intercepted to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA for further action.
The Oyo/Osun Customs boss expressed gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders for their support in achieving the command’s objectives.
He called for continued public cooperation to safeguard Nigeria’s borders, enhance revenue, and support economic growth.
