NCJTF President Seeks Collaboration With Maritime Reporters To Tackle Port Industry Challenges

Harboursandport.com: Apapa, Lagos – November 20, 2025: The National President of the National Compliance Joint Taskforce of Licensed Clearing Agents, NCJTF-LCA, Basil Chudi Nwolisa, has called for stronger collaboration with the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria, MARAN to address persistent challenges undermining Nigeria’s port industry.

Speaking during a working visit to MARAN’s headquarter in Apapa, Nwolisa highlighted the Taskforce’s mission to combat corruption and inefficiencies within the maritime sector and on Nigeria’s highways.

According to the NCJTF President, the port industry continues to grapple with: non-compliance with established rules and regulations, including the ALERT system; deliberate withholding of container deposit refunds by shipping companies; frequent arrests and seizures of duly examined containers by the Federal Operations Unit, FOU; delays faced by Customs clearing agents at the hands of terminal operators as well as extortion of Nigerian trucks on highways.

According to him, “These challenges have become an embarrassment to our country before the international trade community.”

The President also formally invited MARAN members to the Taskforce’s Third Anniversary Celebration, scheduled for Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Rockview Hotel, Festac Town.

The event will feature the inauguration of NCJTF chapters, a fundraising program, and the birthday celebration of Dr. Nwolisa.

Nwolisa emphasized that the Taskforce cannot achieve its objectives alone and urged MARAN to partner with them in promoting compliance, transparency, and accountability in the maritime sector.

“We hereby invite the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria to collaborate with us to ensure the success of this noble project. Your cooperation, collaboration, and consultation will be highly appreciated,” he said.

The visit underscores NCJTF’s commitment to building alliances with key stakeholders to restore integrity and efficiency in Nigeria’s maritime operations.
