Harbourandport.com: Lagos, Nigeria - June 26, 2026: The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA has reaffirmed its commitment to human capacity development as a cornerstone of its vision for a stronger maritime industry, with the signing of a new partnership agreement with the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organisation (ITC-ILO) in Turin, Italy.
Speaking at the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU signing, NIMASA Director General, Dayo Mobereola, represented by Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Mr. Chudi Offodile, emphasized that structured training and technical assistance are vital to preparing Nigeria’s maritime sector for global demands.
A statement signed by Deputy Director/Head Public Relations, NIMASA, Osagie Edward, noted that Mobereola said “This partnership directly supports our objective of targeted capacity development.”
“By leveraging ITC-ILO’s expertise, we will strengthen the training of maritime labour inspectors, policymakers, and trainers in implementing the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, as amended,” he noted.
Highlighting the strategic importance of the collaboration, he added that the initiative would translate into measurable improvements in maritime labour administration, ensuring Nigeria’s sector is globally respected, professionally driven, and anchored on the principles of decent work.
ITC-ILO Director, Christopher Perrin, welcomed the agreement, pledging the Centre’s full support through faculty and resources to advance Nigeria’s human capacity development goals.
The MoU follows a series of strategic engagements between both organizations, coordinated by NIMASA’s Executive Director of Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services, Jibril Abba, and ITC-ILO’s Head of Training, Giuseppe Zefola, with guidance from ILO Regional Adviser, Amos Kuje.
