"With these changes come new technologies and practices that may not only include Customs operations, but also how we communicate and collaborate within the industry.

"Today, we will explore essential vocabulary that underpins our work, helping us to navigate the complexities of Customs procedures, trade compliance, and international logistics, we are turning this time with not just a matter of humanity. It is crucial for enhancing efficiency, functioning transparently, and ensuring compliance in our operations," he noted.

The Managing Director of Roam Media Concept,  Mr. Innocent Orok, in his welcome address, disclosed that the training was a fall out from a write up by a reporter (not a maritime journalist), who misrepresented facts and made reference to a system that Customs had discarded over two decade ago.

He disclosed that there was a need for the training if journalists must disseminate accurate and current developments in the maritime industry to the public.

Speaking on the challenges faced in the cause of organizing the event, Mr. Orok said, "Though,  it has not been easy to put this event together due to the harsh economic realities of our polity. But it is worth it, because truly speaking a lot has evolved in the Maritime sector, especially new technologies and ICT based services which the media must be abreast with to properly educate, inform and set agendas for a productive Maritime sector."

"It is pertinent to note that Maritime Journalists deserves training and Empowerment," he stressed.

He commended the Comptroller General of Customs for the approval of the training programme as well as the CACs of Apapa and Tin-can port Commands and their Public Relations Officers for their contribution to the success of the event.
