2 Customs Officers Detained for Maltreating Civilians at Seme

Harboursandports.com: Lagos- December 4, 2024: Two officers of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, alleged to have been involved in the maltreatment of civilians at Seme, have been arrested and handed over to the Customs Police for further investigation.

The two officers identified as Superintendent of Customs T.A. Inemugha and Assistant Superintendent of Customs II G.O. Aboribo was implicated in the maltreatment of individuals in a viral video that sparked outrage recently.

The Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, condemned the officers' actions, stating that such behaviour is contrary to the professional standards expected of custom personnel. In an official statement, the NCS reaffirmed its commitment to integrity and professionalism.

Deputy Comptroller of Enforcement, Istifanus Musa, PSC, expressed regret over the incident, stating, "We will not condone any form of misconduct." He emphasized the service's dedication to transparency and accountability. 

The NCS has called on the complainants involved in the incident to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation. The Service assured the public that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against the officers once the investigation is concluded. 

The incident has drawn attention to the need for stricter oversight within the NCS to maintain public trust and uphold its reputation as a professional enforcement agency.
