Harboursandport.com: Lagos - January 21, 2025: Kenneth Jukpor, a renowned maritime journalist and publisher of News Diet, has successfully completed his Master's degree in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
Despite the challenges posed by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strikes, Jukpor persevered and achieved his academic goal.
During his studies, Jukpor led a group project on Community Journalism, which shed light on the plight of the Alabarago lepers' colony in Lagos.
The project's findings were published in several national newspapers and blogs, prompting aid from non-profits and multinationals.
This project showcased Jukpor's commitment to using journalism as a tool for social change.
Jukpor also worked on an advertising project, "New Nigeria, New Me," which was adopted by prominent institutions, including the Nigerian Police Force and Nigeria Customs Service. This project demonstrated his creativity and ability to develop effective communication campaigns.
For his thesis, Jukpor investigated the public perceptions and public relations practices of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) at Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA). His research highlighted significant gaps in transparency, conduct, and public relations, which negatively impact the public's perception of the NCS. Jukpor recommended measures to improve operations and public relations at MMIA, including better PR strategies, frequent staff training, anti-bribery enforcement, and modern equipment acquisition.
Jukpor's academic achievement is a testament to his dedication and hard work. As a maritime journalist, he has consistently demonstrated his commitment to excellence and his passion for storytelling. His Master's degree will undoubtedly enhance his skills and knowledge, enabling him to make even more significant contributions to the field of journalism.
