Nigeria Customs Service Celebrates International Customs Day, Reaffirms Commitment to Excellence

Harboursandport.com: Lagos, Nigeria - January 27, 2025: The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS celebrated International Customs Day at the Tin Can Island Port, TCIP in Lagos, with a ceremony that highlighted the Service's achievements and reaffirmed its commitment to excellence.



The Assistant Comptroller-General, ACG of the NCS, Charles Orbih, delivered a keynote address, emphasizing the importance of innovation in driving efficiency, security, and prosperity. 


He noted that the NCS has made significant strides in automating its processes, leveraging advanced technologies such as blockchain, e-commerce platforms, and artificial intelligence.


Orbih also highlighted the Service's achievements in security, including the interception of illicit trade and the promotion of legitimate commerce. He emphasized the NCS's commitment to striking a balance between revenue generation and trade facilitation , leveraging smart technology to facilitate legitimate trade while preventing illicit activities.


Meanwhile, The Customs Area Controller of the TCIP, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, outlined the Command's comprehensive action plan, focusing on three key pillars: capacity building, enhanced collaboration, and accountability and integrity.


The ceremony featured a presentation of award to ACG Charles Orbih, as stakeholders praised the NCS's efforts to promote efficiency and security, and expressed their commitment to continuing to work together to promote trade and commerce.


The celebration of International Customs Day is an annual event that aims to promote awareness of the role of customs in facilitating trade and commerce, as well as its efforts to promote security and sustainability. The event is celebrated by customs administrations around the world and provides an opportunity for stakeholders to come together and promote cooperation and collaboration.
