Harboursandport.com: Copenhagen, Denmark - February 1, 2025: Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd have officially launched their new ocean network, dubbed the Gemini Cooperation, aiming to provide a more reliable and flexible service to customers.

The new network, which will comprise about 340 vessels, promises to deliver industry-leading schedule reliability of above 90%. The first sailings took place today, with more vessels set to join the new schedules in the coming weeks.

A press statement signed by Senior Media Relations Manager, Indian Subcontinent, Middle East and Africa, A.P. Moller - Maersk, Ashish Alawani, stated that the new network has been designed to provide customers with improved reliability, flexibility, and more competitive products. The company's Chief Product Officer, Ocean, Johan Sigsgaard, said that the new network would benefit customers by providing a more efficient and interconnected service.

The Gemini Cooperation is the result of a partnership between Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, two of the world's largest container shipping companies. The new network will cover East/West trades and will consist of 29 efficient ocean mainliner services, supported by an extensive network of 28 agile, intra-regional shuttle services.

The launch of the new network is seen as a major development in the container shipping industry, which has faced challenges in recent years due to disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and other factors.

Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd have said that they expect the new network to be fully phased in by June, with all vessels sailing on Gemini schedules. The companies have also committed to reducing their carbon footprint and aim to reach net zero emissions by 2040.
