Apapa Customs Deepens Collaboration with Nigerian Navy

The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening inter-agency cooperation with the Nigerian Navy, as part of efforts to enhance maritime security and trade facilitation.



The Customs Area Controller, CAC, Emmanuel Oshoba, paid a courtesy visit to the Flag Officer Commanding, FOC, Western Naval Command, Abubakar Abdullahi Mustapha, in Lagos. 



The visit was aimed at consolidating operational synergy in line with the policy thrusts of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi which emphasize Consolidation, Collaboration, and Innovation.


During the meeting, Oshoba highlighted the importance of building on existing gains between the two agencies. He noted that while Customs is primarily known for trade facilitation and revenue generation, it also plays a vital role in national security. 

“To achieve this mandate, we must collaborate with the military, the mother of security,” he said. He further commended the Navy for safeguarding Nigeria’s waters, stressing that safe maritime corridors are essential for seamless cargo movement into the country.


Mustapha, in his response, acknowledged the longstanding partnership between the Navy and Customs, emphasizing that port security thrives on inter-agency coordination. 

He praised the Customs Service under CGC Adeniyi for its achievements in blocking revenue leakages and surpassing national revenue targets. “Continue what you are doing; with more revenue, there will be more infrastructure and social safety network for the country,” he remarked.


The FOC assured the Apapa Command of sustained cooperation in securing the maritime domain, pledging improved synergy to support national economic growth.


The visit underscores the growing collaboration between Nigeria’s frontline security and trade agencies, reinforcing the shared goal of safeguarding the nation’s maritime environment while boosting economic development.
