Nation's Economy: Customs Boss Speaks On Service's Role To Lead City University Students, Faculty

Harboursandport.com: Ibadan, Oyo State - February 5, 2025: The Customs Area Controller, CAC of the Oyo/Osun Area Command, of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Ben Oramalugo, visited Lead City University in Ibadan to enlighten students and faculty on the roles and responsibilities of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS.




Oramalugo explained that the NCS plays a critical role in promoting legitimate trade, protecting local industries, and supporting national economic growth. He outlined the core duties of the NCS, including ensuring compliance with import and export regulations, preventing smuggling, facilitating trade, collecting government revenue, and securing the nation's borders.


The Customs boss emphasized the importance of understanding the NCS's functions, his words: "It is essential for the academic community to know what we do, how we do it, and why we do it." 



He encouraged students to consider careers in Customs and other law enforcement agencies, stressing the importance of public service in maintaining national integrity.


Oramalugo also highlighted the NCS's efforts to modernize and streamline operations through technology, ensuring that the Service is at the forefront of global standards in customs operations. 


He praised the university for its commitment to academic excellence and expressed his desire to strengthen the relationship between the NCS and academic institutions.


The visit was well-received by the university community, with students and faculty engaging in a Question and Answer session with Oramalugo. 


The Vice-Chancellor of Lead City University, Dr. Kabiru Adeyemo, thanked Oramalugo for the visit, saying it would help to promote a better understanding of the NCS's roles and responsibilities.


The event was part of the NCS's efforts to promote awareness and understanding of its roles and responsibilities among the academic community and the general public.
